EVALUATION and REFLECTION

Aesthetic Development

Students and teachers enjoyed having Visual Arts lessons in the newly constructed and well-equipped Art Room. The room was also well used on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings for art workshops. As for the D&T course on Wednesday afternoons at the Art and Technology Education Centre, the number of students applying for it showed its success and popularity and our students were highly praised by the teachers from ATEC.

Personal, Social and Humanities Education (Cross-curricular Project)

The PSHE cross-curricular project, first introduced in 2002, was highly commended by both teachers and students. Good comments from the adjudicators for the students participating in the Brother Thomas Award competition showed that the aims had been achieved.

Interviewing teachers

This proved to be very useful and productive. Teachers find it more comfortable to express their views and suggestions.

IT development

The newly constructed Information Technology Learning Centre was well used. Updating and upgrading IT equipment in classrooms and special rooms enabled effective and interesting teaching and learning.

Class visits by the Principal

This proved to be very effective because closer contacts and better relationship with students can be achieved.

Sports development

The results for the Inter-school sports competitions for 2008-2009 were again good and encouraging. Continuous training, even during off seasons, should be the reason behind the great improvement.

Educational Trips

The T&T trip, the Business Studies Trip, the Beijing Putonghua Camp, the Chinese Culture Trip, the French Summer Camp and the UK English Immersion Camp were all carried out smoothly and successfully.

Moral and Civic Education Session

The Adolescent Health Programme jointly organized with the Department of Heath was carried out smoothly and successfully. The programme is highly praised by both teachers and students.

Self-reading

Students have slowly cultivated the reading culture. Two reading lessons were allocated to F.1, 2 and 3. The Reading Buddy Scheme proved to be very successful. Both our students and the participating schools found the scheme very useful and educational.

Small Class Setting

Both teachers and students found the introduction of small class setting for English, Chinese and Mathematics in both F.4 and F.5 very beneficial.

Sister School Links

The sister school linkage with Beijing No. 8 Middle School and Beijing Fengtai No.2 Middle School was further improved during the Beijing Putonghua Camp period. Students who attended the Putonghua Camp visited both schools, observed lessons and had sharing with the students. For our sister school in Shenzhen, seventeen students accompanied by two teachers visited the Shenzhen Hongling Middle School, on April 20. They also observed lessons and had sharing with students from that school. All students found the visits both educational and meaningful.

Integrated Humanities Curriculum

The IH curriculum for F.1, F.2 and F.3 was implemented successfully.

Student Learning Profile

The e-class has been adopted to develop the Student Learning Profile. This helped students to compile a detail record of their extra-curricular activities and community service involvement.

School Improvement Programme (Phase II)

With the completion of the School Improvement Programme (Phase I), the school will continue to investigate the possibility of further development to provide better facilities for the students.

Service training programme for F.1 and F.3 students

The two-hour communication skill workshop and volunteer service training workshop for F.1 and F.3 students respectively were conducted successfully. The same workshops will be organized for the next academic year.
