Passing away of Mr Peng Shilu (彭士祿), Father of China’s Nuclear Submarines

Mr Peng Shilu, a prominent old boy renowned as “Father of China’s Nuclear Submarines”, passed away on 22 March 2021 (Mon) in Beijing at the age of 96.

From 1936 to 1938, Mr Peng studied primary five & six at 7 Kennedy Road, St. Joseph’s College.

Mr Peng made significant achievements in National Science and Technology. Not only was he the first chief designer of China's nuclear submarine project, but he was also an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(中國工程院院士).

Despite the extreme hardship in early years, Mr Peng managed to strive harder than anyone else for success with much devotion. It is the spirit of dedication and patience that carried him to greater heights.  

On a side note, the schooling back in the olden days was different from nowadays. There were classes 8 to 1, with class 8 equivalent to primary five, class 7 to primary six, class 6 to secondary one, class 5 to secondary two … and class 1 to matriculation class.
