Fight against Coronavirus (Sharing by Mr Carl Leung, Class of 82)

2020-05-18 00:00:00

Soon after the first COVID 19 case was imported into HK on 23 January, Department of Health started to operate quarantine camps to isolate those people whom have close contact with the infected patients. It was just the first few days in the Chinese New Year of the Mouse. Auxiliary Medical Service was ordered to assist the quarantine operation. As the regional commander of the New Territory West of AMS, I have the duty and responsibility to safe guard the public health of the HK people. I have been working in the quarantine camps to take care of the confinee. I have also escorted the confinee from the border to the camp.

I was also responsible to escort the HK residents who was confined in Japan cruise ship. I still remember the operation was in a cold morning. I was waiting for the residents in the chilly and windy apron and making sure they were safe and being taken care when they landed home.

Apart from front line operation, I have also appeared in the media to explain to the public on infection control. It is very important as general public has a lot of misconceptions in the infection control in the clinics and afraid to come for treatment. I also explained to the public about the safety of attending a funeral to say the last goodbye to their love one.

I have been blessed that I am able to help the sick and the needy in this pandemic. It is a duty to serve the needy when you are in a white coat. St Joseph’s has taught me well to have the courage and wisdom to face the challenge as a healthcare worker. I have the privilege to work with many Josephians who are also in the front line in taking care of the sick in the hospitals.

Forward, nor flinch nor fear,
Ever with hearts sincere,
Render with joy to your Mater her due;
All that is vile reject; Heaven will e’er protect,
Sons of St. Joseph’s valiant and true.
