Congratulations to Professor Dennis Lo (Class of ’81)!

We are proud to announce that Professor Dennis LO, an exemplary old boy of SJC, has been awarded the 2021 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for discovering that fetal DNA is present in maternal blood and can be used for the prenatal testing of trisomy 21 and other genetic disorders.
Renowned as the "Oscars of Science", the Breakthrough Prize will recognize the world's top scientists. Professor Lo expressed his gratitude to SJC for inspiring his interest in science.
In recognition of his groundbreaking achievements in life science, Professor Lo, the Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Chemical Pathology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has received over the years multiple prestigious awards, including the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) 2018, the Outstanding Achievements Award of the 11th Annual WuXi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Awards 2017, and the First Future Science Prize 2016.
